I just learned that Debby Moody has found a place for the 2015 VT All-Day Sacred Harp Singing. She has created a Facebook event to help publicize the singing.
The details from the event page say that singing will take place on March 21st, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The location for the singing is at the Weybridge Town Elementary School, 210 Quaker Village Road, Weybridge, VT 05753.
Debby wrote “singing from the 1991 Denson Revision of The Sacred Harp. Free and open to the public. All are welcome. Loaner books available. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch.” Further communications will follow.
This website does not have active administration or contributions at this time. Information on details of singings is not likely to be completely accurate. If using calendar or maps associated with this website please attempt to call or write the contact person associated with the local singing.
Volunteers to administer or contribute to this website are welcome. Please contact Ian Smiley. His telephone number is eight zero two two seven nine eight six eight three. His email address is smileyira-at-gmail-dot-com.
Anyone coming to the Ingalls singing on Saturday, if you have a window fan, might you bring it to keep the temperature down? That would be really nice of you.
This Saturday, July 20th in Newbury, VT Dr Tom Malone and friends will host the 9th annual Jeremiah Ingalls All Day singing from 10 am to 3pm or so.
As far as I know this singing will be in the hall next to the Newbury Congregational Church at 4915 Main St S, Newbury, VT
There will be a potluck lunch on the grounds.
We will sing from The Christian Harmony as revised by Dr Malone and the 1991 Denson The Sacred Harp. Loaner will be available. The event is free and open to the public, donations are happily accepted. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.
If you contact me seeking information I will do my best to answer your questions.
Chelsea and I were at a shape-note singing school hosted by the Summit School in Montpelier today.
Joan White had a question for the teacher, Tim Eriksen, for pointers on singing as amazingly as he does.
In response, Tim had us try out singing overtone singing.
I think the idea was that with our trying overtone singing we would take some more time to listen to how we sing, giving us more information to work with as we create the sounds we want to sing with as we enjoy singing from The Sacred Harp.
I’ve had a long and exhausting week, and when Chelsea and I were enjoying our efforts in overtone singing on our ride home we started to laugh. It is so good to laugh.
Thank you Chelsea, and thank you Tim Eriksen.
Thank you also to Mary Collins who made these events with Tim Eriksen happen this weekend.
Montpelier, VT based Summit School for traditional music and culture will host Tim Eriksen to give a shape-note singing school on Saturday April 27th, 2013, at the Bethany Church on Main St in Montpelier.
Tim will first offer an introduction to singing from The Sacred Harp for folks who haven’t yet tried it and then turn to details of shape-note singing methods for people who may have been singing for a while and want to clear up some persistent questions.
Donations are how we pay for our events usually. If you are inclined to help pay for the cost of hosting this event, and to support further shape-note singing schools in VT please consider making a donation. You can make a check out to Shape note singing communities and mail it to Shape note singing communities of VT Incorporated, 202 Howard Ave Apt 2, Waterbury Center, VT 05677 . Your money will go into the bank account the non profit has with the Northfield Savings Bank. You can also use the Paypal options below, and moneys will go into the same bank account.
Tim is a gifted musical performer, an experienced teacher, and a knowledgeable scholar. You may have heard of the movie Cold Mountain, which featured singing from The Sacred Harp, and Tim Eriksen taught the performers in that movie how to do it. Tim featured in bands like Northampton Harmony, and Cordelia’s Dad. His solo and collaborative efforts are too numerous to mention. He is one of the founders of the singings represented in the Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Communities, which host the largest singing from The Sacred Harp in the world.
For a peak at the Trio de Pumpkintown you can view the video below. To learn more about Tim Eriksen you can visit his website.
Joseph or Ines took this video while at the 2013 VT all day sacred harp singing.
My 33rd birthday coincides with the 1st Saturday Montpelier local shape-note singing for April in a couple of weeks.
This will be Saturday, April 6th, 2013, at the Tulsi Tea Room in Montpelier. We sing at 630 until 8pm, but Chelsea and I will be there around six to drink tea and chat with folks. I think my mum Susan will there as well, since it’s my birthday. Yay!
As usual, Chelsea and I will bring loaner books to share.
